MG motors are ready to debut in the Indian market with its B-segment SUV in the first half of 2019. The SUV would be based on the Baojun 530 sold in China and will come with two engine options.
“The biggest challenge was the decision of the type of engine to come up with. Our first car would be in the market, just a year before the implementation of BS-VI norms; hence we had a choice of converting the engines to BS-VI ready or to introduce the car with BS-VI compliant engines” says Mr. Rajeev Chaba, President, and Managing Director, MG Motors. After deliberate consultations, the company is going to launch their vehicle with BS-VI compliant engines in both the petrol and diesel variants.
The initial version would be a 5-seater vehicle that would be around 4,655mm in length, 1,835mm in width and 1,760mm in height. There is a 1.5Litre, direct-injection petrol engine and FCA sourced 2.0Litre, turbo diesel engine.
However, the interiors would consist of free-standing infotainment screen, panoramic sunroof and leather seats with powered adjustability. There are cruise control, TFT multi-info display and electronic parking sensors also.
Thanks to the all-new localized setup which is going to affect the pricing in the best possible way. The car would be competing with Jeep compass, Hyundai Tucson and many other mid-range luxury SUVs.
The car has been spotted many times in various regions and can face tough competition. On the other hand, the price of the model and the launch date is yet to be decided by the firm. The design and the specifications are yet to be announced by the firm.
