Basic Car Maintenance Tips

Your car needs more attention to yours than you have imagined. Sometimes, we forget to pay attention to basic things that are important for the car’s smooth and proper functioning. However, just by following your car’s basics and when you should perform regular car maintenance to assure that your car is in top-running condition.

Here we’ve made a list of a few essential maintenance things which shouldn’t be neglected.

1.Air Filter

Your car’s engine air filter controls air flows into your motor. One must make sure that the air filter is flowing correctly. In this way, you can enhance fuel-efficiency, check your emissions, and help ensure your engine’s life. Perhaps, you can do it swiftly at home by following the owner’s manual instructions and how regularly it must be changed. It is recommended that the engine filter be replaced every 15,000-25,000 miles or 24,000-40,000 km, depending on the road type. We request you to check that the air filter is installed correctly. If the filter is not installed accurately, unfiltered air entering the engine could destroy the airflow sensor.

2. Battery

A dead battery is one of the most annoying car difficulties.  Let us tell you a secret behind the smooth and efficient running of a car is a good battery connection. You must have noticed a crunchy white residue on the battery, which is a general visual check of your battery’s condition. However, you can clean the spot using a professional product from your local auto parts store. Alternatively, you can use baking soda and water to clean such areas.

3.Spark Plugs

The spark plugs ignite the gas and air mixture that ultimately powers your vehicle. If your spark plugs aren’t functioning perfectly, your engine will waste power and fail to run at optimal function. If you face this issue, you must check by a professional or repair any faulty spark plugs. Most spark plugs need fixing after about 30,000 miles but make sure to check your car’s user manual to see if your vehicle is different. While changing spark plugs might sound like intense work, it’s a pretty simple process, and you can do it by yourself.

4.Transmission Fluid

Transmission fluid is a lubricant other than oil that keeps all the moving parts of your transmission well functioning. Even if you own an automatic or manual transmission vehicle, you must check the transmission fluid and get it changed when required to avoid costly transmission damage or replacement. Examine if the fluid looks very dirty or has a burned smell because cars have stringent transmission fluid requirements. For this purpose, we suggest visiting your dealer when you want to change your transmission fluid.

5. Coolant Level

A low coolant level can cause the engine’s overheating and the heater to blow cold air from the vents. If the coolant level is low, it demands to be topped up using the recommended type of coolant. Do check the user manual for safety precautions and the proper way to do it by yourself. If the coolant level drops soon after fuel top-up, the vehicle needs to be checked for coolant leaks.
