Maruti Suzuki has achieved yet another milestone by rolling out a one-millionth car from its manufacturing plant of Suzuki Motor Gujarat Private Limited (SMG) at Hansalpur in Gujarat Wednesday. Besides accomplishing milestones, SMG has become the brand’s fastest production site to attain this milestone in just three years and nine months. The plant, 97km from Ahmedabad, started production in February 2017 and timed one million units on October 21, 2020, Wednesday within 45 months.
In February 2017, SMG commenced with Baleno’s production, and now they are one of the country’s most prominent manufacturers of Maruti Baleno, Swift, and Toyota Glanza. This plant manufactures models for both domestic as well as international markets. The one-millionth milestone model is the Baleno premium hatchback currently sold in the Nexa premium dealership chain. The Baleno hatchback is mainly produced in India and manufactured under the “Make in India” leadership.
However, in January 2018, it began manufacturing the Maruti Suzuki Swift and began rendering for exports in March 2018.
SMC has invested Rs 12,680 crore in setting and renewing Gujarat’s plant, which is considered one of the most vital investments.
With a workforce of about 1800 in January 2019, SMG added a second manufacturing plant and a powertrain production facility.
In 2019 Suzuki sold around 1.44 million units and produced approximately 1.58 million units in India. SMG estimated for 25 percent of the companies made, at about 4,10,000 units across the globe.
Suzuki will continue its production activities to meet customer needs by securing safety by conducting precautionary measures upon spreading the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the facility has managed to get to speed up production capacity during the global pandemic. Maruti Suzuki is set to introduce the next-generation Celerio in 2021 and update the popular Swift hatchback for the Indian market.
